Sustainable Design in Action
- Rainwater Harvesting: A series of water bodies were designed to collect rain runoff, harvesting 11 ML/year, covering 80% of the site’s annual water requirement of 15.4 ML/year.
- Tree Plantation: An extensive program of tree planting and seeding stabilizes the landscape, propagating local species and fostering a greener environment.
- Cluster Housing: Mahouts' housing units are thoughtfully organized into clusters, preserving much of the site for landscape restoration. Courtyards and pavilions enhance the functionality of these compact spaces, making them practical yet community-oriented for this low-income housing initiative.
Key Outcomes
- Water Resilience: Rainwater harvesting ensures year-round water availability, crucial for both elephants and the community.
- Ecological Restoration: Landscape regeneration and planting programs have revitalized the ecosystem and mitigated the effects of the desert climate.
- Cultural Integration: The design respects and enhances the cultural and ecological heritage of the Amber Palace region.
